Doctors in India were left stunned after a man walked into the hospital with a machete lodged firmly in his head.
On top of that, he somehow had the presence of mind to scroll his phone with a calm demeanor while waiting to be attended to.
Attacked by trio
According to local media reports, the man known as Rohit Pawar, told his family at around 10.15pm last Saturday (May 2) that he would be meeting some friends.
Despite his father’s pleas not to do so, Rohit insisted on going out and later found himself getting attacked by three teenage boys near a fried chicken shop due to an alleged grudge.

Rohit’s father said he initially brushed it off when Rohit’s brother contacted him to inform him that Rohit had gotten hurt in a fight.
At that time, I thought it must have been a trivial dispute, and I didn’t pay attention. A few minutes later, however, his brother called me again, saying that Rohit was injured by a koyta (machete).
“I panicked and rushed down. By then, some people had driven him to Shatabdi Hospital in Govandi. When I reached there, the staff told me that he had been shifted to Sion Hospital.”

Close call
Doctors who attended to Rohit were shocked and amazed by his ability to remain conscious and have no issues with his speech or motor skills.
Dr Batuk Diyora later revealed that Rohit was extremely lucky that none of his main brain parts were injured by the machete. However, he added that staff had trouble getting Rohit’s CT scan and angiogram done.
“Metal was not the issue, but putting him inside the machine and scanning him was difficult. A procedure that usually takes two to three minutes took at least 45 in this case.

“We had to be careful while removing the weapon, as there was a high chance that his other underlying vessels could have been impacted. And last was to ensure minimum possible blood loss.”
The machete was eventually removed but Rohit was placed under close observation as doctors feared he could experience speech and comprehension loss, weakness in the left side of his body, and seizures.
Arrests
Meanwhile, senior police inspector Madhu Ghorpade said the three youths who attacked Rohit were detained and sent to the Dongri Children’s Home as they are minors.

He added the suspects were identified based on Rohit’s statement and local enquiries. Police are also examining CCTV footage from the area to establish the sequence of events.
The case is being probed for attempted murder and causing grievous hurt with a dangerous weapon.
