A man in China stunned onlookers when he dropped his newly-purchased iPhone 17 in front of a large crowd outside an Apple Store in Shenzhen today (Sep 19).
The incident happened during the global launch of the iPhone 17 series.
Dropped from above head level
In a video circulating online, the man can be seen holding his newly-bought iPhone 17 above his head before releasing it screen-first onto the concrete floor.

Despite being marketed as featuring a Durable Ceramic Shield 2 with three times better scratch resistance, the device’s screen cracked immediately.
Crowd left in disbelief
The man was surrounded by customers believed to be queuing up for the new iPhone 17 series. Many gasped at the stunt, with some recording the moment on their own devices.

The clip, uploaded early this morning, has already gained over 1,200 likes at press time.
Many netizens criticised the act as pointless, with one saying it was “wasting time on meaningless things just for traffic.”

Another remarked, “In this situation, any phone can break,” while others questioned, “What is the purpose?” and added that it was “such a waste of the phone.”
