KUALA LUMPUR – We have all encountered fellow motorists who drive dangerously or are a menace on the road. While it’s definitely infuriating to keep a cool head, confronting such motorists with violence isn’t the answer either.
On Monday (March 22), a Facebook user named Nicholas Raja uploaded a 2-minute video that showed a group of motorcyclists giving chase to a four-wheel-drive and eventually cornered the vehicle, forcing the driver to slow down.
Before they could decide on their next course of action, one of the motorcyclists took it upon himself to teach the driver a lesson by smashing one of his car’s windows with his helmet.
The driver subsequently flew into a rage, pulled out a parang knife, and waved it aggressively while his female companion began screaming in terror. After managing to fend off the motorcyclists, he got back into his car and sped away from the scene.
The video has so far gathered a total of 942 comments and 2.9K shares at the time of writing.
Dang Wangi police chief ACP Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said that it is believed that the driver nearly knocked one of the motorcyclists over, thus causing the altercation to take place. He also said four individuals have been arrested to assist in their investigations, as reported by Sin Chew Daily.
The case will be investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting with weapons, which carries a five-year jail sentence, a fine, or both.
Zainal encouraged those who had additional information on the incident to contact the Dang Wangi police station at 03-2600 2222. He also urged the public not to take matters into their own hands or stir unrest on social media.
Remember, folks. Violence is NOT the answer to solving disagreements on the road. If you ever have an altercation with other road users, always stay calm and call the authorities immediately if you’re unable to defuse the situation.
