BACHOK – A man was severely injured while tracking down a thief who had stolen his bird.
The 42-year-old victim was attacked by three men behind Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Long Yunus at Kampung Pauh Jabit and reportedly lost his right hand’s thumb in the process.
He also suffered injuries to his head, right calf, and left knee.
Bachok District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Mohamad Ismail Jamaluddin said they received an emergency call at 5.35 pm.
He added that initial investigations revealed that the victim and his friend were trying to find a man who reportedly stole his murai cerek bird.
“Upon reaching the man’s home, the victim realised that he wasn’t at home.
“He then got into an argument with another man before he was attacked with a machete and a sword.
“The victim has been sent to the Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital (HUSM) Kubang Kerian for treatment,” he said when contacted by Berita Harian today.
Mohamad Ismail said the police are also working to identify the three suspects.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt.
