With Christmas slightly more than three weeks away, malls across Malaysia are gearing up by decorating the premises with bright, colourful tinsels, lights, and ornaments to spread the festive cheer.
However, one mall is Malaysia is going viral not for its excessive display of Christmas decorations, but a lack of it.

Clip shows mall with little Christmas decor
In a brief but amusing 9-second clip shared on TikTok by @maemon95, it showed a Christmas tree standing all by its lonesome in the middle of the mall’s concourse.
As the camera panned out to give viewers a wider view of the mall’s interior, it also gave them a huge surprise to see how little its Christmas decorations had occupied the vast amount of space available.

And if that wasn’t forlorn enough, the only visitors who actually went to check out the Christmas decor was a little girl accompanied by her mother.

According to the OP’s replies in the comment section, the mall is 1 Borneo Mall in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
‘Minimalist’ Christmas spirit?
The clip, which has been viewed over 900,000 times at the time of writing, saw netizens expressing amusement and a hint of sadness over how glum the mall’s atmosphere was with its Christmas decor.
One joked that the mall was most likely going for a ‘minimalist’ concept for its Christmas decor.

Another simply quipped: ‘Feliz never there.’

Some speculated that the mall probably didn’t have the budget to go all out on its Christmas decor, thus forcing them to scale back.

They also poked fun at the size of the Christmas tree, with one commenting: ‘POV: When you order on Shopee but fail to check the size.’
