Malaysia’s Thomas Cup Run Ends with 0-3 Quarter-Final Loss to China

Come back stronger next time!
Malaysia’s journey in the 2026 Thomas Cup came to a halt today after a 3-0 defeat at the hands of top seeds China in the quarter-finals.

Despite a determined effort to challenge the powerhouse at Forum Horsens, the national squad was unable to secure a point in the opening three matches.

The tie began with a grueling first singles encounter involving Leong Jun Hao. Although he managed to force the match into a decider, he ultimately fell 10-21, 21-16, 9-21, giving China an early lead.

Malaysia’s hopes for an equalizer rested on the shoulders of top doubles pair Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik. Facing Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang, the Malaysians fought through a tense opening set but narrowly missed out 22-24.

The Chinese duo carried that momentum into the second set to win 24-22, 21-14, extending China’s advantage to 2-0.

The decisive blow came in the second singles match. Justin Hoh faced off against Li Shi Feng in a must-win situation for Malaysia. Despite battling hard, Hoh was unable to overcome the world-class consistency of his opponent, resulting in a 14-21, 13-21 straight-sets defeat that sealed the 3-0 victory for China.

While the result brings an end to their 2026 campaign, it was a well-fought match. The team will now look to build on this experience as they prepare for future international assignments.
