According to his description, it only took a few hours to accumulate a few hundred thousands of hateful comments pointed towards him.

“During that time, my sister was still in Taiwan, and my family was in Kelantan, and they were all very worried about me.

“I don’t mind bearing the suffer myself, but when you know your parents are worried about you, it feels really awful.”

Upon sharing this, Phei Yong couldn’t compose himself and has to turn to the back and wipe his tears.

“At the moment I felt really useless. Why am I such a failure? Why am I so immature that I make my family worry about me?”

He also said that luckily he had his sister and his friends to encourage him and helped him overcome those difficult times.

His dormmate taught him a lesson by showing him how small the big tree he passed every day is when they looked down from a balcony at the 11th-floor, showing him how after getting through the hardship, any obstacle would become only a small fraction in life.

Reflecting on his past, he is happy that he has chosen to overcome the hardship instead of running away.

“I would never be able to face the public if I chose to flee.”

Looking back, he cherishes the incident that taught him an important lesson that his peers would not have understood, and all these experience has made him who he is today.

The incident that he was indicating is presumably from the time when he was caught on camera holding a banner that wrote “Ah Jib Gor, We Love You!!” showing support to the former prime minister Najib Razak during an event in Tunku Abdul Rahman College back in 2012.

During the time, movements against the Prime Minister like Bersih 3.0 was going strong, and that may be the reason he got attacked by netizens so aggressively.

Everyone has their own story and challenges.
