SHAH ALAM– All Malaysians are on cloud nine after the men’s team won their historical gold in Badminton Asia Team Championships after taking down the defending champion Indonesia today (20 Feb).
The Malaysia men’s team ended the Indonesian domination in the championship since 2016 with a victorious 3-0 win.
The first men’s single Lee Zii Jia successfully secured the first point for Malaysia after beating the Indonesian Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo 14-21, 21-12, 21-10 in 50 minutes.
The world No.7 Aaron-Wooi Yik proved their excellence after taking down the world No.28 Leo Rolly Carnando-Daniel Marthin in the second match.
All eyes were on Ng Tze Yong and he took the champion point in straight-set, 21-14, 21-15 against Ikhsan Leonardo Rumbay.
This is the first time Malaysia emerged as the champion for the event since 2016.
With this triumph, Malaysia has successfully avenge their 3-1 defeat in Manila two years ago.
