A local woman in her 60s was caught for attempting to smuggle tons of drugs into the country by Nigerian authorities more than two weeks ago.
In a report by The Guardian Nigeria, Ting Hung Kiong was arrested by Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Terminal 2 arrival hall of Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos on May 17.
It also reported that Ting entered the country from Thailand via Dubai on an Emirates Airline flight, where she carried two large travel boxes which contained a synthetic strain of cannabis known as Canadian Loud.

Trip allegedly paid by daughter
When interrogated by authorities, Ting said she worked as a caregiver back in Malaysia and that her trip to Thailand, and then to Nigeria was sponsored by her daughter.
Part of a statement by NDLEA reads:
“She disclosed that she spent two weeks in Thailand before she was handed the illicit consignment at the Thailand airport to deliver in Nigeria.”

Aside from Ting, several others were also arrested across Nigeria at various airports and border crossings as part of NDLEA operations.
