Some couples promise to grow old together. This Malaysian couple is arguing about growing thinner instead.
A woman recently shared how her friend’s marriage is now hanging by a thread after the husband set a very specific condition for the relationship to survive.
And that condition is tied to his wife’s weight.
Husband spent thousands to help wife slim down
Reported by mStar, the woman is 146cm tall and weighs 84kg. Her husband, on the other hand, is slim at 165cm and 58kg.
The woman had already been on the heavier side before marriage. Her husband had even been open about not liking obese women.
He allegedly set a condition before marriage that she needed to reduce her weight to below 60kg. Despite her efforts, she was not able to reach that target.
Yet the marriage still went ahead.
The friend said the husband continued spending thousands of ringgit on slimming treatments and diet programs in hopes that she would lose weight.
He even bought exercise machines that cost several thousand ringgit to help her along.
But nothing worked. The treatments failed and the numbers on the scale refused to budge.
Over time, his frustration grew. The woman said her friend was repeatedly criticised for being obese and the couple would argue often because he felt she was not trying hard enough.
Instead of losing weight, she gained more
Despite all the equipment and paid treatments, the woman’s weight went up instead of going down.
The friend said her weight is now above 80 kilograms, which led to more tension between the couple.
Things finally boiled over this month.
Husband issued a conditional divorce through WhatsApp
During a heated argument, the husband allegedly sent a WhatsApp message stating:
If your weight does not drop below 60 kilograms by 31 December 2025, the divorce will take effect.”
In other words, slim down or the marriage ends. The couple has been married for three years and has no children yet.
