Mass layoffs are never easy, and when they happen unexpectedly, they can leave employees scrambling for support and new opportunities.
This reality is now facing more than 500 employees in Malaysia, who were recently let go by ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok.
The company, known for its viral content platform, announced the layoffs via email as part of its shift towards broader use of artificial intelligence (AI), according to Berita Harian.
Amid this uncertainty, a local radio station, Kool 101, has stepped forward to offer a lifeline. In an Instagram post, Kool 101’s Content Director, Rara, expressed the station’s concern for those affected and announced that they are offering job opportunities for the displaced TikTok employees.
Kool 101’s supportive response
Kool 101 is extending a range of job openings to those impacted, including positions such as:

“We hear your distress when you are suddenly laid off. As a creative media brand, we want to offer you jobs because we want you,” read the statement from Kool 101.
