Leslie Cheung’s memorial online concert to be held on Apr 1, features Karen Mok and more

The late Leslie Cheung is one of the most prominent pioneers who shaped Cantopop during the 1980s and continues to influence the younger generation even after his untimely passing in 2003. Among some of his famous works include Chase (追), Wind Blows On (风继续吹), and Past Love (当年情).

Marking the 18th anniversary of Cheung’s demise, an online concert will be held on April 1, featuring an all-star lineup such as Karen Mok (莫文蔚), Samuel Hui (许冠杰), Julian Cheung (张智霖) and Hacken Lee (李克勤).

The concert, titled “Thinking of You, Leslie Cheung,” aims to bring some much-needed cheer to Hong Kongers who have been struggling to cope with the pandemic and political upheaval raging within their borders.

The concert will also be reminiscing upon Cheung’s most beloved songs and performances to evoke classical Cantopop vibes among the audience.

According to Apple Daily, the concert will be streamed online for free. It will be spearheaded by producer Xiao Chaoshun, who organized Sam Hui and Aaron Kwok’s online concerts last year.

“It was an impromptu idea and we only made the decision to host the online concert a few days ago.”

“We also asked Cheung’s former manager Florence Chan (陈淑芬) and boyfriend Daffy Tong (唐鹤德) whether we could go ahead with the concert and they readily agreed,” Xiao said.

The concert will be held physically on Tsim Sha Tsui’s Ocean Terminal rooftop and you watch it online via HiEggo’s YouTube Channel.
