Malaysian badminton coach Wong Tat Meng is fighting for his life after a serious motorcycle accident in Sydney on Sept 8.
According to Sin Chew Daily, Australian media reported that the crash happened along Putty Road in the Garland Valley area, involving two motorcycles that collided.
One motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second rider — identified as 58-year-old Wong — was treated by paramedics before being airlifted to the hospital in critical condition.
Former national coach Datuk James Selvaraj confirmed that Wong, a passionate motorcyclist, is currently in the ICU as doctors work around the clock to save his life.
Key figure behind Lee Zii Jia’s Olympic medal
Wong Tat Meng played a pivotal role in Malaysian badminton, most notably helping independent shuttler Lee Zii Jia clinch the men’s singles bronze medal at the Paris Olympics last year.
After leaving his coaching role, Wong moved to Sydney to continue his career as a club coach before the tragic accident occurred.
