They say, a friend in need is a friend indeed, and this was beautifully illustrated in a touching moment at the Olympics.
Instead of keeping the glory for himself, Malaysian badminton star Lee Zii Jia chose to honour someone who had been a constant presence throughout his career.

Right after his smashing victory, Lee Zii Jia didn’t just bask in the glory. Instead, he navigated the crowd to find his longtime supporter and friend, Shahrazad Sani, affectionately known as Bang Med.

In case you didn’t know, Bang Med is a dedicated reporter who has been by Lee Zii Jia’s side through every serve and smash.

When asked how it felt to win his first Olympic medal, Lee Zii Jia took off the medal and placed it around Bang Med’s neck. He told Bang Med, “Here, you try this.”
Bang Med, clearly moved, said, “The medal feels heavy and valuable. Even though it’s bronze, it feels like gold to me.”
The video of this touching moment quickly went viral, and people couldn’t get enough of it. The strong friendship between Lee Zii Jia and Bang Med had everyone talking.
One person wrote, “Respect to LZJ for putting his Olympic medal around Bang Med’s neck. What a great sportsman!”

Another said, “The Malaysian spirit is amazing. Even though they have different jobs and backgrounds, they’re like family.”

Someone else commented, “Respect to Lee Zii Jia for valuing those who support him. Badminton isn’t easy, especially for a singles player. Keep fighting, Zii Jia—your supporters are always here for you.”

Another wrote, “When we’re kind to others, they’re kind to us in return.”
