Team LZJ, the management team for Malaysian badminton ace Lee Zii Jia, announced on Friday that Wong Tat Meng will end his tenure as Lee’s coach.
Wong, who joined in May 2023, will officially conclude his contract on December 31, 2024.
Expressed gratitude to Coach Wong
In their official statement released on social media, Team LZJ expressed their gratitude, acknowledging Wong’s significant contributions.
“It is with a heavy heart and much gratitude that Team LZJ accepts the decision of Coaching Director Wong Tat Meng to pursue a different phase of his coaching career,” the statement read.
The statement highlighted that since taking the helm, Wong has been instrumental in Lee’s resurgence, guiding him back into the world’s top 10 rankings and leading him to multiple titles, including a bronze medal in men’s singles at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The team highlighted Wong’s continued commitment until the end of his contract, noting that he is currently preparing Lee for the upcoming BWF World Tour Finals.
“We thank Coach Tat Meng for his hard work, dedication, and most importantly his wisdom and guidance throughout his time with Team LZJ,” the team added.
Successor will be appointed soon
Looking ahead, Team LZJ has assured fans that a successor will be appointed soon, stating, “An announcement will be made in due time.”
The team stated that they will be gearing up for the 2025 badminton season and the next Olympic cycle.
