In the early hours of November 16, sky watchers will witness the fourth and final supermoon of the year, marking a spectacular close to 2024’s lunar events.
According to China Press, his full moon, known as the “supermoon,” will be particularly bright and large, appearing as the Moon reaches one of its closest points to Earth.
This “supermoon” will reach its full moon phase at 5:29 a.m. on Saturday, November 16.
Happen a few times a year
A full moon, occurs when the Sun, Earth, and Moon align, with the Moon fully illuminated by the Sun. This alignment generally takes place on the 14th, 15th, 16th, or even the 17th day of each Chinese lunar month.
However, due to the Moon’s elliptical orbit around Earth, the distance between the two celestial bodies varies. The point closest to Earth is called the perigee, while the farthest point is the apogee.
Supermoons, though not rare, typically occur 2 to 4 times each year. In 2024, supermoons appeared on August 20, September 18, October 17, and now, November 16.
Among these, the October 17 supermoon was the largest, followed by September’s, with November’s coming in third, and August’s being the smallest.
