The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) is calling on Malaysians to leverage the ‘Price Catcher’ app to help monitor and report high prices charged by shops and vendors.

This mobile application which is not widely known has been launched for more than 4 years, according to our observation on the iOS App Store.

Kosmo reported that during a recent event attended by approximately 2,000 members of the Madani Community, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil highlighted the app’s significance.

“We urge everyone to inform their respective areas about available products and any difficulties encountered so that we can collaborate with KPDN to address the issue of rising prices,” said Minister Fahmi.

The ‘Price Catcher’ app, developed by KPDN, offers users the ability to compare prices for 480 selected items across various types of markets, including wet markets, hypermarkets, supermarkets, mini markets, and grocery stores.

It monitors six categories of goods: fresh produce, dry goods, packaged items, milk and baby products, hygiene products, and beverages.

Minister Fahmi also appealed to members of the Madani Community to actively use the app and report any sudden price increases to district information officers.

This measure is particularly crucial in light of the upcoming salary increase for public servants in December.

“This is among the responsibilities of us as a Madani community,” he added, underscoring the community’s role in keeping a vigilant eye on price changes and reporting discrepancies.

The Madani Community, managed by the Malaysian Information Department, was established in June last year.

It serves as a voluntary body comprising individuals from various races and backgrounds, with the aim of facilitating effective communication between the government and the public.
