Kuala Lumpur is undoubtedly the pride and joy of all Malaysians as not only is it the capital city of the country, but is also home to several famed buildings such as the Petronas Twin Towers and Merdeka 118.
The bustling city has recently made its way into the ‘Best World Holiday Destinations 2024’ list, where it was ranked 18th out of 37 cities across the globe.

KL listed as 18th best holiday destination in the world
According to annual survey released by Which?, a non-profit organisation based in the UK which aims to protect consumers, the list is based on seven different measures: Â food and drink, accommodation, cultural sights, shopping, ease of getting around, value for money and lack of crowds.
Here was the breakdown of KL’s scores:
- Food and drinks – 4/5 stars
- Accommodation – 4/5 stars
- Cultural sights – 3/5 stars
- Shopping – 4/5 stars
- Ease of getting around – 2/5 stars
- Lack of crowds – 2/5 stars
- Value for money – 4/5 stars

KL achieved an overall score of 75%, sharing the spot with Vietnam’s Ho Chin Minh City and was ahead of Dubai, Hong Kong, and Toronto.
As for the #1 spot, it was claimed by Sydney with an 88% score while Malaysia’s perpetual ‘rival’ Singapore came in at 5th place and was named the “joint best city in Asia”.
According to Which?, the survey was first carried out in October 2023 and the score is based on a combination of overall satisfaction and the likelihood of recommending the city.
On top of that, only cities which were reviewed by more than 30 people were included into the list.
