Buying a house usually comes down to location, price and condition.
But one auction listing in Kuala Lumpur recently caught Malaysians’ attention for another reason after the property page claimed the house was linked to a murder case.
On Aug 28, Facebook page KL Selangor Lelong Properties shared a listing for a two storey link house in Taman Overseas Union, better known as OUG, Kuala Lumpur.
According to the post, the freehold property measures about 1,755 sq ft and is located along Jalan Hujan Emas 5.
Its reserve price was listed at RM810,000, with the auction scheduled for Sept 24, 2026.
What really got people talking, however, was the page’s description of it as a “house with murder case being auctioned”.
‘Empty pockets are scarier than ghosts’
Instead of immediately being scared off, plenty of Malaysians seemed more interested in discussing whether the price was worth it.
One commenter joked: “Empty pockets are scarier than ghosts.”
Another said they would happily consider the house if the price dropped to RM550,000.
Others felt RM810,000 was still too high considering the alleged history of the property, with one suggesting a price of around RM680,000 to RM750,000 instead.
Some even appeared completely unfazed by the possibility of supernatural activity.
Another person said they once rented a house in Ipoh where they allegedly heard the deceased former tenant cooking at 4am and washing utensils afterwards.
They joked that they allowed the “tenant” to stay as long as it did not appear in front of them.
There were also jokes about getting a free companion at night, while one person suggested that if a ghost was going to stay rent free, it should at least help clean the house.
Others simply felt the location mattered more.
One commenter described the area as a good location and said the property could be a good catch if the price dropped below RM700,000.
So, what allegedly happened at the house?
As curiosity grew, one Facebook user eventually asked the property page which murder case it was referring to.
In response, KL Selangor Lelong Properties shared a Sinar Harian report published on Dec 31, 2021.
According to the report, a 78-year-old man was charged at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrates’ Court with murdering his 72-year-old wife at a home in Taman OUG at around 4.16pm on Dec 21, 2021.
The man was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, and no plea was recorded as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
However, the news report only stated that the incident happened at a residence in Taman OUG and did not publish the exact street address.
As such, while the auction page itself linked the 2021 murder report when asked about the property’s history, WeirdKaya is unable to independently confirm that the house currently being auctioned is the exact property involved in the case.
