With Chinese New Year currently in full swing, Malaysians all across the country are setting off fireworks to celebrate the occasion. But along the way, things still can go awry.
This was unfortunately what happened to a condominium in Kuala Lumpur, where the entire unit was destroyed after fireworks were reportedly set off right inside it.
KL condo goes up in flames as fireworks shoot out from balcony
In a 22-second TikTok clip shared by @paanrimgarage on Chinese New Year Eve (Jan 28), it showed the condo being engulfed in flames and thick, black smoke while fireworks continuously shoot out from the balcony.

Other neighbouring units also had to run the risk of being caught in the inferno as sparks emitting from the fireworks flew everywhere in a frenzy.
In the in-text caption, the OP sarcastically commented that this year’s Chinese New Year’s celebration was very festive along with the Mandarin phrase often used during the occasion ‘Gong Xi Fa Cai’.
Another video filmed by a resident living at another building located not far from the condominium captured the blazing chaos that ensued, with the OP expressing concern for the people residing inside the affected unit.
No casualties reported
The incident was later confirmed by the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department, where 24 firefighters were sent to the scene upon receiving a report about the fire, reported Harian Metro.
Senior Operations Commander Mohd Suhaimi Mohd Razali said in a statement that the fire had completely destroyed the unit located at the 22nd floor of Kenangan Point Condo along Jalan San Peng.
Thankfully, no victims were reported and the fire was put out at 11.27pm. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
