KL Cafe Gets 1-Star Review After Customer Rants About Its Cashless Payment Policy

Petty or legit complaint?
To minimise human contact and reduce errors, many restaurants have switched to cashless payment methods. While many have adapted to it, some have been less welcoming.

A cafe in KL was left with a poor online review by a customer who wasn’t too pleased that cash payment wasn’t accepted, leaving it visibly confused.

KL cafe gets 1-star review by annoyed customer

In a Threads post, the cafe posted a screenshot of a 1-star review a customer had left on Google with the following description:

Never again. This business is cashless business. Cash is still a legal tender in Malaysia and you must accept it.

“I do not support cashless business. Oh, and I just noticed you charged me the wrong bill. P.S. your coffee is ok.”

Unsurprisingly, the cafe was left bewildered by the customer’s outburst and wondered where it had gone wrong with its cashless payment policy.

“It’s sad to see customers leaving a 1-star review not because our food is bad, overcooked, or due to bad service. But all because of our cashless regulation.

“Yes, we are fully cashless for safety and to lessen errors. What do you all think of our cashless system?” it wrote in the caption.

Dividing opinions

Netizens were split over the matter, with some supporting the cafe while others sided with the customer.

Some felt that society should learn to adapt and keep up with technological advancement instead of whining and expecting others to accommodate them.

However, some felt that cafe was being unreasonable towards those who were less technological-savvy, with one writing that the cafe should have placed a sign telling customers about its cashless policy.
