A Malaysian mechanic is earning widespread praise after he rushed out past midnight to help a father whose motorcycle broke down while he was riding with his wife and two young children.
The mechanic shared the incident on TikTok @minyakhitamjalanan_.
Around 1am, he received a message from the father who said his motorcycle chain had snapped and the front sprocket was missing.
He was trying to get his family home to Bukit Jalil.
The mechanic first replied that he had already ended work at 10pm and could not take new calls.
But everything changed when the father sent a photo of his family waiting beside the broken motorcycle.
The mechanic said he immediately felt uneasy, especially since he has children of his own.
He then asked for the man’s location and prepared to head out.
The father only had RM30 left, but the mechanic helped anyway
The mechanic quoted about RM140 for the repair including labour. The father hesitated and admitted he only had RM30 left for the month.
He said he would try to think of another solution.
The mechanic could not bring himself to leave the family stranded at 1am. He drove out anyway, found them by the roadside and repaired the motorcycle for free.
He also told the father to keep his remaining RM30 to buy necessities for his kids.
The father was stunned and kept asking if the mechanic was sure about not charging him. The mechanic reassured him and wished the family well.
The video has since warmed the internet, with many Malaysians praising the mechanic for his kindness and saying the country needs more people like him.
