There are plenty of third-party companies that offer road tax renewal services for those who want to do it hassle-free. However, it’s important to ensure that they are legit entities before renewing your road tax.
One such company is now facing high scrutiny from the public and the authorities after it was found that it had no authority helping Malaysians renew their road tax.
BJAK not authorised to renew road tax, say JPJ
In a statement released by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) on X (formerly Twitter) today, it said that it was made aware of advertisements made by BJAK Sdn Bhd (BJAK) via its website and social media platforms offering road tax renewal services, including its “free road tax programme”.
“JPJ and the Ministry of Transport (MOT) would like to reiterate that both departments have not authorised BJAK to offer road tax renewal services.
Furthermore, BJAK’s claim that its online road tax renewal service is ‘audited, laid and approved’ by JPJ isn’t true and has confused the public.
JPJ added that several complaints have since been lodged by the public regarding its service as the renewal through BJAK was not updated on JPJ’s system and the company had also allegedly charged extra fees for its services.
It also stressed that neither JPJ nor MOT had given BJAK the green light to charge customers extra fees to renew their road tax.
Can be done via authorised avenues
JPJ urged Malaysians to be careful and steer clear from companies claiming to offer similar services, saying that road tax renewals can only be done through the JPJ counter, kiosk, JPJ Mobile counter, MyJPJ app, JPJ public portal and JPJ business partners’ platforms (Pos Malaysia, MyEG and PUSPAKOM).
They are also advised to contact JPJ should they have any enquiries regarding road tax renewals.
