BATU PAHAT – A factory worker was killed when he accidentally fell into a spin chiller machine at a chicken processing factory located at Jalan Ayer Hitam on Saturday (Sept 11).

Johor Occupational Safety and Health Department (DOSH) director Husdin Che Amat confirmed the case.
Killed By Spin Chiller Machine
Firstly, he said the 40-year-old victim was assigned to clean the machine with two other colleagues.
While doing so, he fell into the machine and was squeezed by its screw conveyor.
“His colleague immediately switched the machine off after seeing the victim’s legs shaking from the inside,” he said.

He also clarified that no production operation was carried out on the day of the incident.
However, the worker was pronounced dead on the spot.
Moreover, DOSH also confirmed that the victim was a Malaysian.
Employer slapped with ‘Prohibition Notice’
Following the incident, DOSH issued a prohibition notice to the victim’s employer for failing to ensure the safety of its workers.
We’ve also punished the employer for not ensuring that the spin chiller was operated safely and not implementing a safe work system, especially the Lockout / Tagout (LOTO) system for cleaning machinery.
“DOSH will take legal action against the responsible party in the event of a breach of regulations under the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994,” said Husdin.
The employer has also been ordered to conduct its own internal investigation while further investigation is being carried out by DOSH.
