JB – S’pore RTS Link Successfully Completes Its First Train Run

Designed to carry up to 10,000 passengers per hour.
RTS Operations successfully completed its first train dynamic run on the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System Link (RTS) mainline on 26 December 2025, marking a major milestone for the cross border rail project.

The test train departed from Wadi Hana Depot, passed Bukit Chagar Station, travelled along the viaduct sections, and reached the international border before returning safely to the depot.

This inaugural run marks the first of many dynamic tests planned under the project’s testing and commissioning programme.

First dynamic run marks key project milestone

RTS Operations said the run represents a significant step forward as the project transitions from construction into the testing phase.

Engineers from RTS Operations were joined by teams from Jacobs, CRRC, Pestech and CHEC, with support from InfraCo partners MRTS and Singapore’s Land Transport Authority, reflecting close collaboration between all parties involved.

Safety & technical checks completed before testing

Before dynamic testing could begin, RTS Operations confirmed that key safety and technical checks were completed. These included line clearance, verification of onboard systems, and ensuring traction power systems were fully ready.

Initial dynamic runs will be conducted at low speeds, with speeds increased gradually only after meeting strict safety requirements.

RTS Operations added that safety remains at the core of every step, as testing continues to ensure the RTS Link is ready for future operations.

Designed to carry up to 10,000 passengers per hour

According to Mothership, the RTS Link will connect Bukit Chagar in Johor Bahru with Woodlands North in Singapore, with the journey between the two stations expected to take around five minutes.

The cross border rail service is currently slated to begin operations by December 2026. Each train is designed to carry more than 600 passengers, with the system able to handle up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction during peak periods.

When operations begin, the service is expected to run with eight trains, with the shortest gap between trains at about 3.6 minutes. The first trains are scheduled to depart from both ends of the line at 6am, while the final services will leave at midnight.
