PAS MP Nurul Amin Hamid has requested that the Malaysian government “control” the organization of concerts by foreign artists such as Blackpink, citing “causing unease” among the country’s Muslim population.

He named other acts such as Westlife, OneRepublic, MAMAMOO, and Jay Chou in his statement to the Dewan Rakyat.

Nurul Amin Hamid argued that the government should limit the number of foreign concerts held in the country, expressing concern about the “flood” of fans that attended the recent Blackpink concert, which he deemed incompatible with the values of a Muslim-majority nation like Malaysia.
“The concerts by foreign artistes are increasingly being held here. Can’t the government control the organising of such foreign concerts?”
He further suggested that the concert should not have been organized, given the recent floods in several states.
PAS has previously criticized concerts held by international performers, with the party’s Youth branch issuing a warning last August that protests would take place if such events went ahead.
Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari had urged the government to cancel these concerts, citing their promotion of “hedonism” and incompatibility with Muslim norms and values in Malaysia.
PAS also called for Selena Gomez concert to be banned in 2016, alleging that it promoted “Western culture and hedonism.”
