While many Malaysians express concerns about the rising prices of certain foods, there’s a foreign woman here who finds Malaysian food prices more affordable than those in her own country.
An Indonesian student was surprised to discover that food sold in most shopping centres in Malaysia is much cheaper compared to prices in her homeland.
She explained that she could buy meals for as low as RM10 at shopping centres around Kuala Lumpur.
‘Culture Shock’
Taking it to her TikTok account, @syffnadya, the student shared how affordable the prices of food are in Malaysian malls while showing the route to the mall that she deemed to be selling cheap foods.
In the clip, the student started to discuss how cheap food is in Malaysian malls, comparing it to prices in her homeland.
The woman mentioned that how she can save money by buying food priced below Rp50,000 (approximately RM14.64).
Meanwhile, dining in a Jakarta mall might cost around Rp60,000 (approximately RM17.60) or more with tax and service charges. However, in Malaysia, you can get tasty food for only RM10.
Following that, she also showed her journey using public transportation to reach Quill City Mall in Kuala Lumpur, where she found affordable food options.
At one of the cafe in Quill City Mall, the student purchased a Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng for RM6.90 and an iced Teh Tarik for RM3.50, bringing the total to around RM11, including tax.
She also praised the food for being affordable, delicious, and served in generous portions.
