Recently, a video on TikTok, uploaded by @jaahashimm, captured this essence of friendship beautifully, resonating with over 200,000 viewers.
Set against the backdrop of Politeknik Muadzam Shah, Pahang, the video features students congregating at a hostel block.
What makes this scene extraordinary is its simplicity yet profound emotional impact: students using their phone’s flashlights, waving them in the night sky, symbolising unity and togetherness.
It might sound small, but it’s about feeling together, even with people you might not know well.
The video’s caption poignantly questions, “Friendship during diploma won’t be the same as degree. It’s impossible to be the same, right?”
It reflects the inevitable evolution of friendships as we navigate different stages of our lives.
‘It was impromptu’
Speaking to WeirdKaya, Nur Shaiza, the video’s creator, revealed that the gathering was initially for an official announcement for new students in 2021.
However, it transformed into something much more meaningful. After the formalities, seniors and the hostel head shared words of wisdom about the importance of nurturing friendships.
Then, everyone sang ‘Memori Tercipta’ (Created Memories) by Shila Hamzah, which was really moving.
‘Our paths crossed because of education’
Shaiza’s advice?
“To all the students out there, remember this: Our paths crossed because of education, and they may diverge due to different aspirations.
Cherish the bonds you’ve formed with your friends and nurture them. Don’t let pride or ego damage these precious connections. Make it a point to create and cherish as many memories as you can.”
The video has sparked a conversation among netizens, with comments ranging from nostalgic reminiscences of diploma days to comparisons with high school experiences.
One wrote: “I didn’t enjoy my time during my diploma, but I loved the period of my degree. Seems like I’m the exception here.”
