Potholes on the road can pose a significant threat to all road users, especially when they are so large that they resemble meteor craters on Mars.
A video circulating on Facebook has shed light on the dire condition of a road in Lahad Datu, Sabah, sparking outrage among netizens.
Vehicles swerve to avoid the holes
The footage shows a stretch of road riddled with potholes of varying depths, posing serious safety risks for road users, especially motorcyclists.
Motorists seen in the video were navigating the road with extreme caution, swerving to avoid the gaping holes that could potentially damage their vehicles or worse, lead to accidents.

The hazardous state of the road drew widespread criticism from netizens, who blasted the relevant authorities for their apparent inaction.
JKR responded
The Sabah Public Works Department (JKR) explained in a statement that a third party had objected to the repairs, claiming the land was private property rather than a road reserve.
The location of the road was scheduled for repairs this year, and funding had already been approved. However, the work could not proceed due to objections from third parties asserting that the land is private property and not designated as a road reserve,” the statement read.
