A homeowner in Singapore has sparked significant public uproar by listing a balcony as a rental space for SGD 380 (approximately RM1333).
This unusual rental offer was posted on the Facebook group “Singapore Islandwide Room Rental (No Agent Fee),” where users quickly noticed that the advertised space was, in fact, a balcony.
A balcony near the MRT station
The post specified that the rental was “only for males, located near Ang Mo Kio, seven minutes’ walk from Yio Chu Kang MRT station.”
It also highlighted that the space included daily cleaning services and covered utilities such as water, electricity, and internet, but lacked air conditioning.
The listing also noted immediate availability, the possibility to register the address officially, and proximity to a bus stop, market, and coffee shop, with limited cooking allowed.
Triggered the netizens
The community’s reaction to the listing was overwhelmingly negative, with many condemning the homeowner’s ethics.
Comments ranged from accusations of treating people inhumanely to threats of reporting the matter to authorities.
“Report him, I already reported.”
Some expressed outrage by rhetorically asking,
“Do you think we are not human?”
“Are you treating Malaysians as if they come from the third world?”.
Others commented on the moral implications of such rental practices, questioning,
“How can one’s conscience be clear when making money like this?”
And the netizens never forget to add their funny remark in the comment section.
“Semi-open scenic room.”
“Is there any toilet? Asking for my pet.”
