If McDonald’s had drive-thru before cars were invented, would horses be the ones doing the ride-thru?
A few days ago, a group of horse riders brought a unique twist to McDonald’s drive-thru culture by turning it into a “ride-thru” at a Shah Alam outlet.
Horse lining up at drive thru
The video, posted on Xiaohongshu by user “喜欢骑马的蛋糕师“, shows three riders approaching the drive-thru lane on horseback.

One woman in a green shirt is seen speaking into the order microphone — noticeably higher than the usual height of a car window — while another rider waits behind her.
A third person stands off to the side, seemingly supervising the process.
Not a common occurrence
Speaking to WeirdKaya, the riders explained that this isn’t something they do often. Since taking horses out onto the road requires careful planning, they usually choose quieter times to ride out.
If there’s a long queue, like at McDonald’s during peak hours, we usually won’t do a ride-thru,” they said.

But whenever we do, the staff are always happy to serve us, and sometimes they even take photos with us.”
They added that they make it a point to order and collect their food quickly so as not to disrupt staff workflow or block the cars queuing behind them.
Safety & cleanliness first
When going on such rides, they are accompanied by a support team on motorbikes who escort them for safety.
The team also comes prepared with garbage bags and shovels to clean up any horse waste along the way, ensuring the surroundings are kept clean.
The riders shared that the horses are rented from a riding arena, whose owners and team members are always very supportive of their outings.
