A woman was left questioning whether there was truth to an old saying that misfortune would befall on those who reached a certain age.
This comes after she experienced betrayal and a divorce on a date and age which had the same number in it: 9.
Was skeptical of old saying
In an anonymous post on XUAN, the woman wrote that she grew up listening to older folks saying that those whose age ends in a “9” would be prone to misfortune and setbacks.
However, she brushed it off as another belief deeply rooted in superstition.
In fact, this was the mindset she carried throughout her life until an “unforgettable and unforgivable” event occurred last year.
Unexpected divorce
According to her, it all began when her then husband of four years asked for a divorce out of the blue.
This completely blindsided the woman, who had little time to process how and why it all happened.
It was like calling someone “Mom” for 20 years, only for her to suddenly tell you one day that you should never call her that again.
“Everything seemed perfectly fine the day before, but now we have become total strangers,” she wrote.
The divorce was eventually finalised on May 19, 2025, when the woman was 29 years old.
Affair
As the woman tried to make sense of the divorce, she discovered from other people that her ex-husband had been cheating on her before the divorce.
Needless to say, his betrayal left her brokenhearted and shattered her perception of trust and love in a marriage.
She then ended the post by saying that while she doesn’t know if turning 29 was a bad omen, the one thing she was sure of was that the divorce “changed her profoundly”.
Netizens wasted no time in comforting the woman, saying that her experience had nothing to do with numbers, but was simply a series of unfortunate events.
They also said she should be thankful that she was able to get out of an unhappy marriage sooner and encouraged her to live her life with no regrets.
