Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a deadly and incurable disease that causes the patient to suffer a slow, agonising death due to unprotected sexual intercourse or using infected needles.
A woman in India fell victim to the disease after her in-laws allegedly infected her on purpose by jabbing her with an untreated needle following an argument over dowry.

According to Indian news media The Hindu, the incident took place in Saharanpur, where a woman named Sonal had gotten married to a man named Abhishek in Feb 2023.
As per tradition, the bride’s family is required to gift a dowry following the girl’s marriage, which Sonal’s father did by giving money, jewellery, and a car — a dowry amount which heavily exhausted his financial means.
However, the groom’s family weren’t satisfied with it and demanded that a bigger car and an additional ₹25 lakh (approx. RM127,800) be given.
Police later told The Hindu that the groom’s family constantly harassed Sonal before kicking her out of the house when her family refused to give in the dowry demands.
Not long after that, Sonal began to experience a rapid decline in her health, where it was later revealed that she had contracted HIV when her parents took her to the hospital.
Her parents later accused her in-laws of making her take “random” medications as well as jabbing her with a needle infected with HIV.
Police confirmed that reports have been made against four persons, including Sonal’s husband and brother-in-law.
However, they reiterated the HIV injection claim remains an allegation until police investigation indicates otherwise.
