SUNGAI PETANI – March is the month that marks the beginning of spring, where nature wakes up from its slumber and ushers in the budding of plants. Among them are cherry blossoms, also known as sakura in Japanese.
Cherry blossoms are a symbolic flower of springtime but have a lifespan of only two weeks before it falls off from the tree. As such, hanami (“flower viewing”) sessions are held annually in Japan to allow people from all around the world to appreciate and admire its beauty. Unfortunately, travel was brought to a complete halt when the Covid-19 pandemic hit.
For Malaysians who were unable to visit Japan since last year, there’s some good news. You can now have your hanami session in your backyard! Recently, netizen Bisous Paris 비쥬파리 posted a photo album of cherry blossoms adorning the streets in pink on Facebook.
The pictures were said to be taken at Lagenda Heights, Sungai Petani. Besides showcasing the flowers, the photos also captured locals creating their own memorable moments with the pink backdrop.
Tabebuia rosea, also known as pink poul and rosy trumpet tree, are commonly found in places located 1200m above sea levels, have temperatures ranging from 20°C to 30°C, and an annual rainfall of 500mm and above. This species was originally distributed from southern Mexico to Venezuela and Ecuador.
In the comment section, netizens across Malaysia shared photos of the flowers growing along the streets.
Do you see the flowers growing in your area? Be sure to take some pictures before they wither away!
