While many people head home to rest after work, 29-year-old Anusha Ravindran steps into two more roles she built on her own, all while staying committed to the children she teaches every day.
For most people, handling one full time job is already exhausting. But for Anusha, her day does not end at 5pm.
By day, Anusha works as a special needs teacher, supporting children with special needs such as autism.
It’s a role she has been dedicated to for the past four years, and one that gives her a strong sense of purpose.

But once the workday ends, she steps into another part of her life. One that is just as demanding, but equally fulfilling.
Outside of teaching, she runs two businesses on her own, a deco business and a flower bar business, both managed alongside her full time career.

It is not easy, and many days are long and tiring. But for her, it is all worth it.
I didn’t want my life to be just go to work and come back doing nothing. I wanted to create something of my own,” she explained.
Balancing three roles
At the centre of everything is her role as a specialist teacher.
Working closely with children with special needs is something Anusha takes seriously.
Over the years, she has built both experience and patience, and her work continues to shape how she sees purpose and impact.
But beyond the classroom, Anusha also has a creative side that she refuses to ignore.
Her deco business has been running for about four years, while her flower bar business was launched in December last year on her birthday, making it a meaningful milestone.
Balancing all three roles requires careful planning.
Her full time job runs from 9am to 5pm. After that, her business hours begin. If she has an event the next day, she spends her evenings preparing decorations.
For her flower bar, she usually buys and cleans the flowers one day earlier before setting up at the event.
There’s no shortcut, it’s really about planning your time properly. Sometimes I’m tired, but I just keep going.”
Business grew from a difficult chapter
Anusha’s deco business began during a difficult period in her life. But instead of letting those painful experiences weigh her down, she decided to turn her energy into something productive and meaningful.
Rather than staying stuck in that moment, she chose to rebuild through something she could create with her own hands.
Her flower bar business, however, came from a much lighter place. It was inspired by her love for flowers and the joy they bring.
Through the flower bar, guests get to pick their own flowers, and she turns them into bouquets on the spot.
“I really enjoy the interaction. When people pick flowers and I make it for them, it just feels very personal and meaningful.
“For me, it was never about scaling quickly or chasing profit. It was about doing something that made me happy,” she said.
While Anusha’s businesses do provide extra income, especially for someone who enjoys travelling, money was never the only reason she started.
More than anything, she wanted to build something for herself.
I wanted to do something different from others. I wanted to achieve and create something.”
“Instead of settling into a routine that felt repetitive, I chose to push myself beyond my comfort zone. That mindset is what continues to push me forward, even on days when I feel physically drained.
Doing it alone

Of course, managing three roles at once comes with its own set of challenges.
One of the biggest struggles Anusha faces is sourcing supplies. Many shops operate during normal working hours, which means she has to find ways to coordinate purchases while still working full time.
Another major challenge is manpower, where there have been times when helpers stood Anusha up at the last minute, leaving her to manage everything alone.
Sometimes everything falls on me. But I’ve learned to just handle it step by step.
“It is not easy, but it has made me stronger and more resilient over time.”
Behind her independence is a strong support system consisting of her family, especially her grandmother and sisters, who have supported her from the very beginning.
“Their encouragement has played a big role in helping me continue, especially during tougher periods.
“Having people who believe in you can make a huge difference when you are trying to build something from scratch,” she added.
The milestones that reminded her it was worth it
Despite the challenges, there have been many moments that reminded Anusha she was on the right path.
For her deco business, one of her biggest projects was an engagement event where every detail mattered. As for her flower bar, she has handled large scale events such as International Women’s Day activations and weddings where she prepared up to 300 bouquets.
She also received a People’s Choice Award, something that motivated her to keep going.

“When I got the award, it made me feel like I should do more and push further.
“These milestones were not just achievements, they were reminders of how far I have come.”
Wants to help other women
Looking ahead, Anusha’s goals are no longer just about personal growth as she hopes to help other women who want to start their own businesses.
One of her plans is to rent out decoration items at a lower cost so more women can get started without high expenses.
She is also interested in teaching deco skills and creating opportunities for others to learn.
Beyond that, she hopes to organise networking sessions for women in business.
“Networking is the most important thing in business. You have to go out, meet people, and learn from them.
“For me, success is not just about building something for myself, but also about helping others grow along the way.”
At the heart of Anusha’s story is a simple but powerful mindset: the choice to keep moving forward.
And most of all, it is about believing that even in difficult seasons, there is always something new you can build for yourself.
