If you’re a frequent traveler, you’d probably notice that plenty of illegal tout drivers, colloquially known as “ulats”, often roam around popular airports while scouring for potential victims.
One such driver tried his luck with a group of tourists from China at KLIA2 but his attempt was ultimately foiled following intelligence gathering and surveillance operations by authorities.
Charged RM80 for trip
In a Facebook post by the Selangor Road Transport Department (JPJ), it wrote that an an illegal tout driver was nabbed yesterday (Nov 1) at KLIA2.

Preliminary investigations later found that the driver had offered his services to two Chinese nationals and charged them RM80 for a trip from the airport terminal to their hotel at Petaling Street.
He was eventually arrested and a Proton Ertiga vehicle was seized by authorities for further investigation.
The driver faces charges under Section 205(1) of the Land Public Transport Act 2010 (APAD 2010), which provides for a fine of up to RM50,000, imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years, or both, upon conviction.

As for those found guilty of abetting illegal ride services, they may be charged under Section 243(1) of the same Act.
JPJ Selangor reminded the public to use legitimate transport services via service counters available at KLIA1 and 2 or by booking rides through e-hailing applications.
If they want to lodge a traffic complaint, they can do so by submitting it via email at [email protected] or through the e-Aduan@JPJ application.
