Illegal M’sian Taxi Driver Arrested At KLIA2 After Offering RM120 Ride To Kuala Lumpur

Authorities reminded travelers to use licensed services.
A 59-year-old man was arrested and his Toyota Vios seized after he attempted to offer an illegal ride service to three Malaysian passengers at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2 (KLIA2).

In a statement, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) said the arrest was made during a covert surveillance operation at the terminal.

The unlicensed airport driver had approached the passengers and offered to transport them to the Sri Hartamas Police Station in Kuala Lumpur for a RM120 flat fare, with payment to be made upon arrival.

JPJ said the case is being investigated under Section 205(1) of the Land Public Transport Act 2010 (APAD 2010), which prohibits providing transport services without a valid licence.

If convicted, offenders may face a fine of up to RM50,000, imprisonment of up to 5 years, or both.

Those found conspiring or assisting illegal drivers may also be charged under Section 243(1) of the same Act.

JPJ confirmed that the Toyota Vios and its driver have both been detained for further investigation.

The agency reiterated its warning to the public to avoid illegal “kereta sapu” operators at airports and to instead use official transport counters at KLIA Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, or book rides through legitimate licensed e-hailing applications.

Members of the public who wish to report similar incidents may contact JPJ via email at aduantrafik@jpj.gov.my or lodge a report through the e-Aduan@JPJ platform.
