A Malaysian teenager recently found himself at the center of an online debate after expressing dissatisfaction with a car gifted to him by his mother.
Wanted a Myvi
The incident occurred when the boy was presented with a Perodua Axia, but his reaction was far from grateful.
According to mStar, he wanted a Perodua Myvi, which he claimed was a more “stylish” and “prestigious” car, similar to what his friends owned.

This story, which has since gone viral, was initially shared by the car sales agent who witnessed the episode.
The agent recounted how the teenager appeared visibly disappointed when his mother handed over the keys to the Axia.
The boy’s reaction prompted the agent to step in, expressing frustration over the lack of gratitude shown by the young man.
Your mother has gone out of her way to buy you this car. Do you even know how much she has sacrificed to make this happen?”
“Many people your age can only dream of owning any vehicle, let alone a brand-new one. Learn to appreciate what you have,” the agent reportedly said, addressing the boy directly.
‘Axia is what I can afford now’
The mother, visibly uncomfortable, attempted to reason with her son, explaining that the Axia was all she could afford at the moment.
She hoped he would understand that she intended to give him something reliable and practical for his daily use.

The incident quickly became a topic of heated discussion on social media platforms. Many users criticized the teenager for his apparent entitlement and lack of awareness about financial realities.

“This is exactly what’s wrong with some kids today. They don’t realize how hard their parents work to provide for them,” commented one netizen.
Another user added, “Owning a car at that age is already a privilege. If he wants a Myvi so badly, he should start working for it himself.”

However, some users offered a more nuanced perspective, suggesting that societal pressures and comparisons among peers might have influenced the teenager’s expectations.
“Sometimes, kids feel the need to keep up with their friends, and that can cloud their judgment,” one user noted.
Many users also expressed admiration for the car sales agent, who took it upon himself to deliver a lesson in appreciation to the teenager.
