‘I Miss Nasi Lemak’ — Lee Chong Wei Stuck In Paris Due To Cancelled Flight Caused By Dubai Floods

Nasi lemak will always be in our hearts. <3
Every Malaysian, no matter where they are, will always keep a special place in their hearts for Malaysian food as we can all probably agree it’s one of the best in the world.

Even sports greats think the same too, which was exactly the case for former world No. 1 Datuk Wira Lee Chong Wei, who found himself pining for local food after getting stuck in a foreign country.

Lee Chong Wei get stuck in Paris, longs for nasi lemak

According the New Straits Times’ (NST) Timesport, it was reported that Chong Wei and his family had travelled to Paris to witness the 100-day countdown to the Paris Olympics as well as celebrate his son Kingston’s 11th birthday.

However, it seemed that the universe had other plans for the badminton legend, who found himself stranded in Paris after his flight was cancelled due to heavy rains and flooding in Dubai.

Despite the unexpected hiccup, Chong Wei took it in stride and posted an Instagram story on Friday (Apr 19) showing him at the Charles de Gaulle Airport along with the caption: ‘Stuck in Paris. I miss nasi lemak.’

The next day, he posted another Instagram story, this time dedicating it to his youngest son who didn’t join the family on the trip with the caption: ‘Still stuck in Paris, see you soon Anson boy.’

Expected to leave Paris on Monday

When contacted by Timesport, Chong Wei said he and his family were slated to return home on Apr 19 but it was disrupted as they couldn’t transit via Dubai due to heavy flooding at the Middle Eastern country.

I tried to get another flight out but couldn’t because most flights are cancelled anyway. The latest I heard is we will fly out tomorrow (Apr 22),” he said.

At the start of this week, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) witnessed its heaviest rainfall in history, where it caused cars to be submerged in floodwaters and hundreds of flights cancelled at the Dubai International Airport.

We wish Chong Wei and his family a safe trip back to Malaysia and to those who are still stranded due to the Dubai floods, stay safe!
