‘I Got Cats To Feed’ — M’sian Man Charged With Drug Possession Pleads For Lower Bail

An unusual request.
Getting in trouble with the law is serious stuff and one would think of multiple ways to ensure he/she doesn’t get thrown into jail or be fined a hefty amount.

A judge at the Shah Alam’s magistrate’s court was met with an unusual request by a man who was charged with drug possession.

His request? A lower bail amount so that he could feed his cats.

Suspect: ‘I got cats to feed’

According to NST, the accused, Erwan Abdul Ghani, was charged with having 4.3 grams of marijuana in his possession at a house in Kampung Paya Jaras, Sungai Buloh, last Tuesday (Feb 27).

He was charged under Section 6 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides a jail term of up to five years, a maximum fine of RM20,000, or both upon conviction.

Erwan was unrepresented while the case was prosecuted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Farah Sofea Norazman, who proposed that bail be set at RM8,000.

In response, Erwan pleaded for a lower amount, saying,

I hope the bail can be reduced as I have many commitments including cats that need to be fed.

In the ruling, Magistrate Sasha Diana Sabtu set bail at RM3,800 with one surety and June 7 for sentencing.
