Malaysian women’s doubles badminton player Thinaah Muralitharan recently concluded her Olympic journey in Paris, receiving an outpouring of support from fans across the nation.
As many admirers took to social media to send their well-wishes, Thinaah posted a story to clarify her Chinese reading skill.
“I don’t know how to read Chinese!”
In an Instagram story posted in front of the iconic Eiffel Tower, Thinaah shared a candid and humorous message with her followers.
“Hello everyone, I think I have to say this before it keeps coming hahaha. I have been receiving many kind and supportive messages lately, but sorry to say to some of you, I DON’T KNOW HOW TO READ CHINESE HAHAHA!” she wrote.
Apparently, Thinaah has been receiving many messages in Chinese, given the impression that she sometimes communicates with her coaches in the language.
“Only learn to speak.”
Despite being well-known for her fluency in spoken Chinese, Thinaah explained that she never formally learned to read the language.
“I can only understand and speak as I didn’t learn Chinese from school. My fellow friends were my Chinese teachers when I was young,” she continued.
Thinaah concluded her post on a positive note, expressing her gratitude to her fans: “So I do hope those are nice messages. But yeah, I’m still very grateful! Thank you.”
