“I can confirm it’s true!” Namewee voices his support for hawker who withdrew statement

KUALA LUMPUR – Controversial singer and YouTuber Wee Meng Chee, popularly known as Namewee, recently took to his social media and publicly voiced his support for the hawker who retracted his statement over alleged blackmail and extortion by three police officers.

“I can confirm that the incident actually happened and I’ll show the evidence publicly once I finish my own investigation.”

In a lengthy Facebook post, he said that he had contacted the hawker and learned that the latter did not lodge a fake police report.

Namewee also revealed the reason why the hawker chose to retract his statement was due to relentless harassment by the police and it deeply affected his business.

However, Namewee admitted that he can’t disclose the evidence gathered for the time being as he “has no backing”.

“Justice might be late, but it will never be absent.”

In response to Namewee’s allegation, Sentul district police chief ACP Beh Eng Lai pointed out that the police has escalated the case to the deputy prosecutor and is awaiting for its decision on deciding the next move.

He also pointed out that the police will disclose all relevant footage in court when the time is right.
