When one looks for a new job, it’s absolutely normal for them to attend interviews across several companies before deciding on the one that they believe suits them best.
One job seeker recently took to social media to share how he received a snarky response from the Human Resource (HR) department of a company after he rejected its job offer following an interview.
‘Thanks for wasting everyone’s time’
In a Threads post, the OP shared a screenshot of a WhatsApp message between him and the HR, where he informed the latter that he would be declining their job offer as he found another one that aligned with his career plans better.
Instead of wishing the OP well in his future endeavours, the HR department, presumably miffed by his rejection, responded the following in a rather passive-aggressive tone: “Ermm thanks for wasting everyone’s time.”
Needless to say, the reply took the OP by surprise, leaving him puzzled by the HR department’s outburst.
In a separate comment, the OP clarified that he shared the incident not to badmouth the company, but merely to share his take on the job recruitment process.
“For me, after a candidate receives the offer letter, we have the right to review it and accept or reject the offer, and it takes time for us to decide.
“In my case, I received several offers from different companies. For this situation, the boss and HR shouldn’t talk like that to a candidate. Even if the candidate did waste your time, you don’t have to act rudely. After all, it’s part of the recruitment process.”
What netizens say
In the comment section, a majority of netizens said the OP had “dodged a bullet” and criticised the HR for acting unprofessionally.
Another suggested to the OP that he reply the HR by telling them their rude response had shown him he had made the correct decision to decline the job offer.
However, one disagreed with the OP’s move to share the incident on social media, saying that his post will one day come back to bite him as it may leave a negative impression on his future employers.
