Public restrooms often fall prey to irresponsible individuals who misuse them for their own perverse interests or personal satisfaction. Beyond intruders with ill intentions, these spaces are sometimes used as a location for recording inappropriate images or videos.
In a recent incident, a woman shared her alarming experience when she claims to have found a hidden camera attached near the flush in a bathroom at a gas station in Danau Kota, Kuala Lumpur.
Black sticker that disguises a camera
She became aware of the suspicious device after noticing a small reflection on a black sticker that read ‘broken flush’.
“I saw the ‘broken flush’ sign on a black tape. I was about to leave, but something made me check it again due to the reflection. I felt something when I touched it and realized there was a camera. It was horrifying,” she said.
The shocking discovery overwhelmed her with emotions, making her tremble with fear.
“What are these sick individuals hoping to capture? Images or videos of people using the restroom?”
Following her discovery, she immediately called her husband and subsequently reported the incident to the police.
She urged women to be extra vigilant and always be aware of their surroundings, especially when using public restrooms or those at gas stations.
Her story was shared by a netizen, who also emphasized the importance of being aware of one’s environment. “As the world becomes more dangerous, people need to be more vigilant. A public service message.”
Many of her followers expressed concerns about the situation, with some pointing out that men are not exempt from such risks.
Comments included sentiments like, “Now, neither men nor women can even use the restroom in peace. What do these individuals hope to achieve with such footage? It’s disgusting. It’s not even safe in hotels anymore,” shared some netizens.
