So here’s the deal. If you’re a Malaysian aged 18 and above, you’re in for a small financial boost.
Last week, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced a one-off RM100 cash aid under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) initiative.
And the best part? You don’t even need to register for it. The money will be credited straight to your MyKad.
But what if your MyKad isn’t working?

Here’s where things get a bit tricky. A faulty or damaged MyKad might interrupt the crediting process. And if the system can’t verify your card properly, you may not receive the money.
Luckily, there’s a quick fix. The National Registration Department (JPN) makes it easy to replace a damaged MyKad, and you might even get a brand new one in under an hour.
Here’s how you can replace it (step-by-step)
If your MyKad is chipped, cracked, unreadable, or just not working right, don’t panic. The process is very straightforward. Here’s what to do:
- Visit any of the 210 JPN offices nationwide. No appointment needed.
- Bring your damaged MyKad.
If you plan to update your address, bring a utility bill as proof. - Dress neatly since you’ll need to take a new photo on the spot.
- Bring a debit or credit card, as JPN only accepts cashless payments.
Wondering how long it’ll take?

JPN says that if everything is in order, such as your fingerprints and records, you can get your new IC printed and ready in just 30 minutes at any JPN branch with a printing machine, such as state headquarters or UTC branches.
If you’re heading to a branch that doesn’t have a printer, here’s how long it will take:
- Peninsular Malaysia: Around 5 working days
- Sabah, Sarawak & Labuan: Up to 7 working days
So if speed matters to you, it’s worth checking ahead to see which branches offer instant printing.
Planning your visit? know the operating hours first
