After years of waiting, the newly launched Shah Alam LRT Line is finally ready to serve Klang Valley commuters.
Also known as the LRT3 Shah Alam Line, the route connects Bandar Utama in Petaling Jaya to Johan Setia in Klang, giving residents in the western corridor of the Klang Valley a new public transport option.
Almost 10 years in the making
While the Shah Alam Line may look shiny and new now, the project itself has been in the works for years.
The proposed LRT3 alignment was first shown to the public through public inspection sessions back in 2015.
The project was later officially launched in August 2016, with construction scheduled to begin the following year. At that time, it was reportedly expected to be completed in 2020.
Fast forward to 2026, the line is finally ready for passenger service, making it a project that has been nearly a decade in the making.

Beyond just being “another new train line”, there are actually a few key things Malaysians should know about it.
1. The route stretches 37.8km
The Shah Alam Line covers a total route length of 37.8km.
Out of this, 2.5km of the route runs underground.
The line connects Bandar Utama to Johan Setia, passing through key areas in Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam and Klang.
For many residents in these areas, this could mean having a more direct public transport option instead of relying fully on driving.
2. It has 20 stations in total
The Shah Alam Line comes with 20 operational stations.
Some of the key stops include Bandar Utama, Glenmarie 2, Stadium Shah Alam, Dato’ Menteri, UiTM Shah Alam, Bandar Baru Klang, Pasar Klang, Bandar Bukit Tinggi and Johan Setia.

With these stations, the line is expected to improve connectivity for those living, working or studying along the route.
3. It connects to both MRT Kajang Line and LRT Kelana Jaya Line
One of the most important things about the Shah Alam Line is that it does not operate in isolation.
There are two connecting stations along the line.
Bandar Utama Station connects the MRT Kajang Line, while Glenmarie 2 Station connects commuters to the LRT Kelana Jaya Line.
This means passengers can switch lines more easily and travel to other parts of the Klang Valley, including areas connected by the existing MRT and LRT networks.
4. Each train can carry 624 passengers
Each train on the Shah Alam LRT Line can carry up to 624 passengers.
This is especially important during peak hours, when more people are expected to use the line to travel to work, school or other destinations.

With this capacity, the line is expected to help move a large number of commuters at one time.
5. There are 2,300 Park N’ Ride bays
For those who still need to drive before taking the train, the Shah Alam LRT Line also comes with Park N’ Ride facilities.
A total of 2,300 parking bays are available across six stations.
This gives commuters the option to park their vehicles at selected stations before continuing their journey by train.
A new option for Klang Valley commuters
With a 37.8km route, 20 stations, two interchange points and Park N’ Ride facilities, the Shah Alam Line is expected to make travelling across Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam and Klang more convenient.
For those who have waited years for the line to open, the launch marks a major step forward for public transport connectivity in the Klang Valley.
And for daily commuters, it may just become a new go-to way to avoid being stuck in traffic.
