Group Of M’sians Wear Najib Face Masks On LRT3 To ‘Remember His Contributions’

"Rindu saya ka?"
Passengers on the newly opened LRT3 Shah Alam Line were recently greeted by an unusual sight when a group boarded the train wearing face masks of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Videos of the group quickly circulated online, drawing mixed reactions from Malaysians.

Organiser says they wanted to remember Najib’s contributions

A man known as Mr J claimed that he organised the gathering and invited fellow Najib supporters to participate.

According to him, the group wore the masks to remember Najib’s role in bringing the LRT3 project to Klang.

The LRT3 project was officially launched by Najib in August 2016 during his administration. The Shah Alam Line was later officially opened by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on 28 June 2026.

“I organised it and invited everyone. They are all supporters of Datuk Seri Najib,” Mr J said.

“What I did was to remember Najib’s contributions to Klang through the existence of LRT3.”

Denies it was a tactic to make people dislike BN

However, the gathering raised questions among social media users, with some wondering whether it was a tactic to make the public dislike Barisan Nasional.

Mr J denied the accusation and stressed that the activity had nothing to do with BN.

“If you say I did this to make people hate Barisan Nasional, I’m sorry, but that accusation is too far fetched,” he said.

Group prays for Najib ahead of medical procedure

In another video, the group could be seen walking down an escalator while still wearing the Najib masks.

Mr J, who claimed to be representing residents in Klang, also thanked Najib for his contribution to the LRT3 project and prayed for his health.

“Thank you, DSN. May DSN always be blessed with good health by Allah,” he wrote.

Najib is reportedly scheduled to undergo a medical procedure to remove plaque detected near a blood vessel. His family has also requested privacy regarding his treatment.

The group later chanted “1Malaysia”, the slogan introduced during Najib’s administration.

Malaysians divided over the gesture

The videos received mixed reactions online, with some praising the group for remembering Najib’s contributions.

Whether he is guilty or not, let the court decide. Allah is fair, but his contributions will always be remembered,” one Threads user wrote.

Others felt that the gesture was unnecessary, arguing that developing public infrastructure was already part of the government’s responsibilities.

He was the prime minister, so of course the government had to plan projects like the LRT,” another user commented.

The user added that good projects initiated by previous administrations should continue regardless of which political coalition is in power.
