KUALA LUMPUR- Viral sensation Khairul Aming recently whipped up some magic in the kitchen with his take on the burnt sugar steamed pudding dessert, an effort that caught the eye of none other than Britain’s culinary titan, Gordon Ramsay.
This all happened in a TikTok duet video, where Ramsay got blown away by Khairul’s own style of cooking the dessert, taken right out of Ramsay’s cookbook Uncharted, a top-class National Geographic publication.
Ramsay was full-on praising Khairul’s gempak cooking style, but couldn’t resist making a bit of a joke about the tiny spoon Khairul was using. He even teased about giving him a larger one for Christmas.
“That’s a tiny spoon!” the British chef declared, referencing the humble wooden spoon Khairul was employing.
“We love Malaysia!”
The climax of the dessert preparation visibly stirred Ramsay’s enthusiasm, leading him to express his anticipation to recreate the dish in Malaysia.
“I’ll be in Malaysia next week and I’ll show you again. Well done,” promised Ramsay in the TikTok duet.
In response, Khairul uploaded an appreciative video expressing his gratitude for the unexpected spotlight from the globally recognised celebrity chef.
He admitted that he first became aware of Ramsay’s reaction video through notifications from his followers, tagging him on the platform.
Ramsay’s authentic response seems to confirm that Khairul’s recipe was not just a worthy tribute but a true reflection of the techniques expounded in Uncharted.
Humorously, Khairul concluded his video by inviting Ramsay to Malaysia, promising, “Oh, come to Malaysia and I’ll give you sambal.”
Khairul’s followers, including Syed Saddiq erupted with joy at the interaction, showering him with congratulatory messages in the comments.
