Frog Meat Spotted Being Sold At NSK Selayang, Management Says Supplier Gave Wrong Item

An NSK representative told WeirdKaya that the Selayang outlet doesn't sell frog meat.
At supermarkets in Malaysia, there’s a section that’s fully dedicated to displaying and selling halal items specially for Muslim customers so that it’s not mixed up with non-halal products.

However, a popular supermarket in Selayang, Selangor, recently found itself in hot water after a customer discovered that frog meat was being placed and sold right next to the fish section.

In the caption, he accused NSK Selayang of mixing non-halal and halal items together and warned others to be careful while shopping there.

For the uninitiated, frog meat is considered to be non-halal and cannot be consumed by Muslims.

The netizen also wrote that he had lodged a report to the authorities and added that NSK Selayang’s staff weren’t aware of the matter when he confronted them about it.

NSK Selayang: ‘It was a supplier error’

In response to WeirdKaya’s enquiries, a representative from NSK confirmed the incident but said that it was caused by an error from the supplier’s side.

“The frog meat isn’t a product of NSK Selayang and the supplier sent it to us by mistake. Our staff had no idea that it was frog meat and put it on display.

“After it was confirmed to be frog meat, one of the staff members quickly notified the supervisor and it was promptly removed.

“We would like to reiterate that NSK Selayang does not sell frog meat at its premise,” said the representative.

KPDNKK’s response

Following the complaint which was lodged by the netizen, the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNK), the government department has also released a reply about the issue.

According to its investigations and meeting with an NSK supervisor, the frog meat was actually meant for the NSK Kuchai outlet.

“There was a case of misunderstanding at the management level and the workers mistakenly placed the frog meat on display.

“A warning has since been issued to ensure that this does not happen again and the matter has been resolved,” it said.
