Four Dead, One Still Missing In Sarawak Landslide Tragedy

The landslide buried two houses, one with 7 occupants, the other with 5.
A devastating landslide struck Kampung Lereng Bukit, Sarawak, in the early hours of Jan 29, claiming four lives, while one person remains missing.

Rescue teams discovered three more victims this morning, bringing the total death toll to four.

According to Kosmo!, the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department reported that the newly recovered victims include a woman and two young girls, while one individual remains buried beneath the rubble.

The woman was found at around 8.55am and was successfully retrieved at 10.53am. The two young girls were located shortly after, at 11.38am and 11.48am. Unfortunately, all victims were pronounced dead by paramedics,” the department said in a statement.

The first victim, a teenage boy, was discovered at 6.00am. With one person still missing, search and rescue efforts remain ongoing.

The operation involves 20 personnel and three senior officers from the Miri Sentral, Lopeng, and Lutong Fire and Rescue Stations, alongside 23 police officers, 11 Civil Defence Force personnel, and six military personnel.

The landslide, which occurred at approximately 2.58 am, buried two houses—Lot 287 A, home to seven occupants, and Lot 287 B, which housed five.

Authorities continue to work tirelessly in hopes of locating the final missing victim.
